History

In the early 1980s, it became clear that a solution was needed to replace softwood window boards which were prone to shrinkage and distortion. In 1982 Fibercill was formed as the first UK company to provide a primed window board manufactured from moisture resistant medium density fibreboard (MDF).

This innovation swept through the construction market and by 1988 the product was so successful that over a third of all new homes built in the UK had Fibercill window boards – it became the Hoover of the construction industry as its name became the vernacular!

The same year Fiberskirt and Fibertrave were introduced adding skirting and architrave mouldings to the range. The success of our innovative products led to the opening of a 17,000sqft purpose-built factory at the manufacturing heart of the West Midlands. This housed our ground-breaking moulding and painting line with its unique ultra-violet curing system.

Not content with standing still, innovation and investment continued throughout the 90s and a second unit of 24,000sqft was added housing two paint finishing lines. Environmental issues were at the forefront of our plans and the use of water based paints and flameless gas infra-red curing were introduced.

A change of ownership in 1999 brought massive investment, with a new state of the art machining division, following closely in 2000 by the Fibercill Specials division and a new distribution centre. The new window board painting line was also commissioned.

2006 saw investment in new production machinery across the board allowing 100,000 lineal metres capacity per day. In 2007 a fourth factory brought total production and distribution capacity to over 100,000 sqft.

What began as a five man team in the early 80’s has a 60 strong workforce today. Investment in product innovation is still at the forefront of all we do and our customers benefit from our strong focus on sales and marketing. Fibercill remains the dominant force both in the UK house building sector and the more recent export and DIY markets.

Mission, Vision and Values

Fibercill is an organisation that takes its responsibilities very seriously. We care about our customers, our employees, our suppliers, our neighbours and the environment, not just close to home but throughout the UK and overseas. We believe that we act with integrity in all our business dealings, creating a thriving and profitable business that benefits not only our employees and shareholders, but our customers too.

Our corporate record, particularly in the area of Health and Safety is of immense pride to us and we will continue to work far and beyond the minimum legal requirements to ensure that we make a positive contribution in every area possible.

It is important to us to know that our customers hold us in high regard, that they see us as a pragmatic and dynamic organisation, supplying products that will in turn enhance their reputation.

It is equally important that our employees see us as a responsible company that puts their welfare high in our priorities. That means safe working conditions, fair pay and stable employment, opportunities for personal development and a satisfying work-life. We want to encourage young people into the work force and for them to know they have a part to play in our future.

To be all these things is not an easy task, particularly in these competitive and recessionary times, but achieving them – and not letting our standards slip – is what differentiates us.
